Las Vegas, NV, April 7, 2004 – Shift4 Corporation is pleased to announce that its new state-of-the-art data center is live and processing tens of thousands of transactions daily. The new data center now serves as Shift4’s primary processing center, providing credit, debit and gift card authorization and settlement processing and transaction data storage for over 5000 organizations worldwide.
Four years ago, when much of the hardware for Shift4’s previous data center was acquired, it was considered state-of-the-art and even cutting edge. It provided 99.9% availability in 2003 and had not neared its capacity. The new data center was not developed to address any existing problems with Shift4’s current center, but rather to expand upon the speed, reliability, redundancy and security present in the original data center and to create a system that could continue to grow with Shift4’s customer base.
“With the new data center we’ve been able to design it the way we want it from day one,” stated J.D. Oder II, CTO. “Everything from security – including 24 hour physical and logical monitoring – to power and air conditioning capabilities was designed and implemented just as we wanted. This gives us the ability to grow into the current system, and even easily expand it as required.”
The new data center, built on Dell PowerEdge Servers and Microsoft Windows 2000 technology, can handle at least ten times the transaction load as it did before. It offers increased bandwidth, high-speed connections to multiple and diverse Internet providers, dedicated authorization processing systems, increased database storage, a full capacity generator, better UPS systems and increased AC capabilities. While the Shift4 gateway services were returning some of the fastest authorization times in the industry, this new data center, and specifically, this new hardware shaved off an average of ¼ second for each transaction, which equates to a better cardholder experience.
“The new data center can really be looked at as a sign of our commitment to continuing to expand in the coming years, both in terms of functionality and client base,” stated J. David Oder, President & CEO. “We increased the capacity of this data center, despite the fact that we had not yet reached capacity on our old system. Because we went with a PC data center, the first of its kind in the country, we can quickly and cost effectively add more systems, more horsepower for any individual task whenever the need may arise.”
Another data center, one with an even larger load capacity, is being designed for inclusion in Shift4’s new corporate headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada and will go live this summer. This data center, combined with our new corporate facility, will be a big step in achieving Shift4’s long-term goal of five-nines (99.999% availability).
