Shift4’s Direct, High-Speed Connection to Fifth Third Bank Now Certified for Debit

Las Vegas, NV, January 7, 2004 – Shift4 Corporation is pleased to announce that it has completed debit testing and certification on the Fifth Third Processing Solutions (FTPS) platform for its DOLLARS ON THE NET® product, the leading web-based e-payment gateway solution with real-time electronic payment authorization, settlement, reporting and fraud control capabilities.

Shift4 is now among the few organizations certified to authorize and settle both credit and debit card transactions directly to Fifth Third Bank. The certification allows DOLLARS ON THE NET to support both online debit (PINned) and offline debit (‘check card’ transactions, where the debit card is treated like a credit card and requires a signature but no PIN). The debit PIN pad machines are connected to DOLLARS ON THE NET via Shift4’s Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG), which is also used to support signature capture and check verification. Shift4’s UTG ensures successful integration to merchants, regardless of the point of sale or property management systems they are utilizing, without requiring programming at the point of sale. Shift4 is also currently working to certify an interface between its DOLLARS ON THE NET solution and Fifth Third’s gift card system.

“Shift4 has always been and remains completely processor and bank neutral. As part of this commitment to neutrality, we work hard to offer our customers and partners the ability to interface directly to any processor they choose,” stated Steve Sommers, Vice President, Applications Development, Shift4. “As Fifth Third continued to grow into a leading industry processor it was obvious that we needed to expedite our certification not just for credit cards, which was completed much earlier in the year, but for debit as well.”

In addition to Fifth Third, Shift4 has certified debit processing interfaces with First Data Merchant Services (FDC), Global Payment Services (formerly NDC) and Vital Processing Services. Additionally, credit card processing interfaces are in place with over 99% of today’s leading financial institutions, including American Express, Paymentech, Nova Information Systems, Chase Merchant Services, First Horizon Merchant Services and Planet Payment, with new interfaces being added regularly.
